On January 20, HLTV published a ranking of the best players of the past year. The fight for the top spots in it was quite intense, as the leading cyber athletes were almost equal in strength. Mathieu «ZywOo» Erbo from Team Vitality came out on top, followed by Alexander «s1mple» Kostylev and Nikolai «device» Ridtz. ZyWoo received the honorary title for the second time in a row.
In his tweet on the occasion of this achievement, he thanked for the support of viewers, fans, representatives of the cyber sports organization and teammates. The player said that while 2020 was a tough year for everyone, he was glad he had the opportunity to continue to perform and compete. The team managed to adapt to the new conditions and finally start winning tournaments.
S1mple, commenting on his second place, emphasized that the priority for him always remains team success rather than personal achievements. He doesn't think they've had enough big wins in 2020 to be the top of the rankings. Last year Alexander Kostylev also managed to rise to the second place in the list of the best players in the world. S1mple hopes that LAN tournaments will be possible again in 2021 and that the team will continue its successful development, improving on the level achieved in 2020.
