Valve revealed plans for ranked tournaments in 2021

Valve has announced that it is expecting suggestions for ranking competitions from cybersport event organizers. In its letter, it said it plans at least two RMR events in each region, with the final games expected to be LAN-formatted.

The first of those tournaments should take place in the spring or very early summer, and the second – in the fall, two or weeks before the October major. Just like last year, Valve is encouraging organizers to change the format of already scheduled events to qualify for the right status. To do so, the tournament must meet a number of requirements that determine which teams participate, how they qualify, and how they qualify for the majors.

Valve plans to financially support the final stages of the ranking tournaments in each region by paying for players' travel and accommodations, as well as providing the necessary prize money. Valve is expected to reveal more details about how the ranking system will change with the addition of new events to the qualifier cycle in the near future. Based on the results of their participation in RMR tournaments, teams will be able to qualify for a spot in the PGL Major tournament to be held in Stockholm in October-November 2021.
