For the Finnish ENCE team, the year 2021 started with a transformation. After an internal analysis of the reasons that led it to fail last year, the management decided to change its strategy. Now the team will not be limited to Finnish players, but will also include cyber athletes from different countries who have already proved themselves in professional matches.
Niklas Oyalainen, the general manager of ENCE, recently gave an interview to HLTV about the problems of the previous roster and how he hopes to avoid them in the future. In particular, he mentioned that he was disappointed when he learned that players did not report conflicts to management in an attempt to resolve them on their own. As a result, the problems only grew, and at the point when it became impossible to ignore them, the only solution was to change the lineup. The team set generally correct goals, but they failed to achieve them, and this reduced the motivation of the players.
According to Ojalainen, the organization of the decision-making process as a whole remains a problem for cybersport, as teams are primarily focused on the opinion of the players themselves. Decisions will now be made differently at ENCE: the coach and team management will always have the last word. The leadership of the cybersports organization believes that it is those teams that have already managed to form such a structure that succeed.
