Danish cybersports organization North, affiliated with soccer club F.C. Copenhagen and Nordisk Film, announced Friday that it is shutting down. The main explanation given by its owners was the problems caused by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the industry.
«Of course, we are sorry that we have to take the decision to shut down the Danish project North, which has left a significant mark on cybersports internationally," said Lars Bo Jeppesen, chairman of the company. – We researched the market, expecting to find one or more more more investors, but unfortunately we didn't find any suitable options. To create a business that will be stable in the future requires a lot of investment, so we decided to focus on our core business – working with FC Copenhagen».
North started competing in CS: GO competitions in 2017 – then it was made up of players who used to play in Dignitas. The team made it to the finals of major tournaments several times, but they never managed to win any significant victories. Subsequently, one of her highest achievements was winning a prize at DreamHack Masters Stockholm. In November 2020, the team announced that it planned to change its strategy, coaching its own young players instead of hiring those who had already proven themselves. The team finalized the selection of a new roster last month, but the management eventually decided to disband the team.
