If you've landed on this article, you're probably wondering how the rank advancement scheme works in CS:GO. And this is probably the most secret and obscure formula Valve has invented, unless you count the drop rate of ST knives Straight from the Factory.
The official explanation in the Steam community gives no information and only makes it more confusing. Same with forums, discussions, and most YouTube channel videos. But if you study the information thoughtfully, certain algorithms of calculation can be sorted out, which we did.
Welcome to Lis-Skins.ru, now we will explain how the scheme of rank promotion in CS:GO works.
Table of ranks
For 2021 in the game there are 18 ranks with a clear gradation. Old-timers know them all perfectly well, and for newcomers we will make a visual clue with the original and slang designation.
. Title | Title (Eng) | Title (Rus) |
| Silver 1 | Silver 1 |
| Silver 2 | Silver 2 |
| Silver 3 | Silver 3 |
| Silver 4 | Silver 4 |
| Silver Elite | Silver Elite |
| Silver Elite Master | Silver Magister (Top Silver) |
| Gold Nova 1 | Gold Star 1 |
| Gold Nova 2 | Gold Star 2 |
| Gold Nova 3 | Gold Star 3 |
| Gold Nova 4 | Gold Star Master Guardian |
| Master Guardian 1 | Master Guardian 1 (Kalash) |
| Master Guardian 2 | Master Guardian 2 (Kalash) |
| Master Guardian Elite | Master Guardian Elite (Double Kalash) |
| Distinguished Master Guardian | Distinguished Master Guardian (Big Star) |
| Legendary Eagle | Legendary Golden Eagle |
| Legendary Eagle Master | Legendary Berkut Master |
| Supreme Master First Class | Grand Master of the Highest Rank (Suprem) |
| The Global Elite | The Global Elite |
Naturally, everyone aspires to the top rank, or at least Big Star, because it's already a nameplate from the highest division, like a colonel in the regular army.
What is calibration
When you just downloaded the game and go to random, there is no nameplate in front of the character. The first 10-15 matches should be played idle so Valve's calibration system understands who it's dealing with. If someone out there probably decides that you're quite up to the level of the first or second Nova, you'll get it. But most of the time they start from the starting silvers (1-4), where they are likely to stay.
All your further play — is an attempt to deceive the calibrator and not to let it confirm in the opinion that you are not able to get further than the same Nova.
One more nuance: only 2 victories are counted for a day, no matter how many games you played in random. In other words, the first rank is only realistically obtainable after 5 days. But there will be time to practice and understand what is going on here in general.
Nobody knows the exact formula for MMR (performance rating), but gamers have already calculated some points:
.-
custom matches bring nothing and most often demote you in rank;
-
it is much more important to earn not frags, but MVP (SCI — most valuable player), at least one point at the end of the match;
-
gamers who are active will rise in ranks much faster;
-
if you play with the same ranks (or lower), the chances of upgrading are about zero.
If you still hope that the scheme of rank promotion in kc is easy to master, then we go further.
How to get promoted
In ideal conditions, where everyone gives in, allows you to set bombs, runs with empty magazines and generally behaves like bots, the promotion scheme looks like this:
.
But that's assuming you win every next game, become a better player, and get 1-3 MVPs per roll. But to hire 9 more people to ride 5 on 5, even on official servers in the modes of Desmatches and Arms Race (they are the most profitable) — is not an option. Unless you have an audience of 100 thousand people on YouTube, Instagram, or a crowd of loyal friends, whose ranks are at a level not lower than Kalash.
In reality it does not work like that, so let's get down from heaven to earth and start practicing hard with bots. Here's where we wrote about related maps, we recommend taking a look. In parallel, get into random and hone your skills with real gamers, albeit crawlers.
Some tips:
Try to play with your teammates. In solo there is a great chance to stay on the first silvers, because the quality and skill of gamers in the initial stages is terrible. And if you regularly stay in «swamp», in which not a single nova — does not swim, the chances of promotion are minimal.
Don't chase headshots, hattricks, virtuoso jumps with a scrolling knife in your hand. A player who has planted more bombs, spent less money, survived the whole mess longer than the others is valued much more than a camper who cuts off gawkers from one point.
Cheats = ban, no hesitation or attempted appeals. Give up on that idea right away, because no one has canceled patrols yet. And in the inventory may lie a couple of expensive skins, which after VAC-ban will be dead weight.
On the rank increase in CS GO affects a lot of factors, and not all are related to your current skill. Through experience, gamers established a few rules that, to varying degrees, prove to be effective to this day:
-
Run less around bots. Go straight into multiplayer with live players, as skills there are honed much faster + easier to memorize the map over time;
-
Don't set the goal to kill everyone, periodically snapping off underdogs. You have to run, cover, throw flashcards, mine/defuse, throw Molotovs and be as useful as possible;
-
Forget about music, relaxation, playing for fun if you want to earn ranks faster. Headphones, sensitivity, and forward;
-
Be reserved when expressing emotions. Getting strikes from someone can take three seconds, and does not increase SCI in any way after the match;
-
Play with teammates or friends who are a few points higher in rank. They'll back you up, pull you up;
-
Don't use the services of «boost» account. What's the point of running suprim if you play at the level of Kalash, or even the first Nova. Salt instantly, and even with strikes will be filled with strikes.
And if you follow the advice, sooner or later you will finally get out of the silvers in a more or less normal league, and then to Global is close at hand. At least in theory.
