If you are interested in how to put your music in CS:GO, then this material will be just right. Yes, you can argue for a long time that unnecessary sounds in a shooter only distract you, reduce your alertness, and on and on. However, there is a demand, which means we need to satisfy it.
Let's say right away that our guide allows you to use Steam's own player, which doesn't require you to minimize the game to switch tracks. First, it's insanely convenient, and second, it's only customizable once. And don't forget to periodically add a new selection of tracks to your playlist so that the current music doesn't get boring.
The main thing you'll need is — Steam Overlay, a proprietary utility for all Valve games. It extends the functionality considerably and is invoked by the combination Shift+Tab.
The thing is very functional, it shows the number of friends, game statistics, experience to the nearest achievement and more. But we are interested in it as an internal player with the ability to control tracks, volume, rewind and other attributes. Yes, owners of headsets with built-in remote control will find the blog not particularly informative, but some people, for example, play with the speakers on, and not everyone has a multimedia keyboard.
Preparatory stage
To change the music in CS:GO will require a little fiddling with folders.
Important: the guide does not affect the system files of the game, which is fraught with a possible account ban.
First, open the Steam application and go to the settings. There at the bottom you will see a section «Music», which we will customize at our discretion.
The first thing to do is to delete a couple of standard folders where Windows stores audio files by default. 90% of the time they are empty, or store standard samples. This is done with the command «Reset base».
After that comes the second step — scanning the PC for music files. Click «Add» and select the folders you think you want. When you're all set, all you have to do is click «Scan». The process will take some time, this is normal. Panickers can relax — comp is not frozen and digging into system files.
On the screenshot you can see that 73 tracks located in the above folder got into Steam library. In the future, every time you update the playlist, remember to scan your PC, otherwise the music won't show up in the internal player.
Important: to have music automatically turned off when voice chat is running — check the corresponding box in the settings.
To open the player itself — open the tab «View» in the Steam client. That's where he'll be. If the minimized window is inconvenient, you can switch to expanded mode by clicking the 6 squares icon.
.If everything is done correctly, you can go to «Library» — «Music». This is where all the tracks will be stored.
The first part of preparations is finished.
Creating playlists
Downloading albums is no problem. It is enough to pre-package this very album in a folder. Another thing — to collect different music in a certain playlist, which is not quite convenient to do by Steam. But it's a one-time job, it will be much easier later.
First we create a playlist. To do this, switch to the corresponding menu and select the desired item.
Then click «+» next to the playlist and enter the name of the future compilation. Here everyone has their own preferences in terms of genres, tastes, type of music. The main thing is to — catch the essence of what is happening.
After that, go to albums or artists again, choose any track, right-click on it and add it to the previously created playlist.
Important: to avoid scanning your library every time after adding new tracks, just check the corresponding box in the settings. After each restart Steam will check the changes and pull new music into the collection.
.Now the preparatory work is finally completed.
Playback control
Since everything was centered around Steam Overlay, let's move on to it. First of all, start CS GO, and then launch Valve's proprietary utility with Shift+Tab. And here at the bottom there already appears a full-fledged button «Music», which opens the playlist in the minimalistic player.
To switch between playlists, just click on the 6 squares we mentioned above. Otherwise, the tracks will play either one after the other or in random order. The player's functionality allows it (cross-arrow icon).
We don't think it's necessary to explain the other elements — they haven't changed for the last several decades and are intuitive.
The only disadvantage of this approach — music cannot be rolled up into a minimalistic player and placed somewhere in the corner of the screen in case of widescreen monitors. This approach would have been much more convenient, but Valve thought otherwise. All actions with rewind, pause and volume change will have to be done via Shift+Tab. In any case, it is much more convenient than Alt+Tab when you have to minimize the game window, and you can't talk in voice chat with this approach.
Modifying game files
We strongly discourage this approach unless players have an understanding of which game files can be changed without repercussions from Valve. Bans, restrictions and all that — the company is very careful about modifying the client.
Some people are annoyed by the music at the start of the game and the end of the battle. To fix this — go to the game files at the following address:
.SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\sound\music
And here is where the most interesting thing will happen — folder was deleted in one of the latest updates. All in order to secure the client from third-party files, and users of — from the craving for modifications.
We hope our guide was useful for you. And if you still have questions — ask them in comments and don't forget that on Lis-Skins.ru a lot of interesting and curious things are waiting for you.
