Canadian cybersports player Jonathan «Jonji» Cary has announced his retirement from Bad New Bears after the team pulled out of DreamHack Open September. The player has been playing for the team since January, when the current roster was formed.
Jonji made this decision after the team finished its performance at DreamHack Open September, having been defeated by TeamOne in the decisive match of the group tournament. Bad New Bears initially gained quite a significant advantage in both maps, but were unable to hold on to it, and as a result TeamOne won with a score of 2 : 0.
Despite the fact that the team won Fragadelphia 15 some time ago, they had some bad luck in larger tournaments. In addition to the aforementioned loss, the team failed to advance above the qualifying stage at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown as well. This prompted Jonji to announce his departure, which he commented on as follows: «As many people have said, I'm probably really hindering the team's progress, and so I plan to leave the team for the near future. I want to put my energy and conviction into a project from which I will feel a return».
As a result, the Bad New Bears, who will have to compete at IEM Fall North America in ten days, will have to replace Jonji with team coach Nathan «madcow» Retterath. While she still has a theoretical chance of making it to the PGL Major, it is now made even smaller by the removal of ranking points for player substitutions.
