The situation with the investigation into «'s use of the» coaching bug has taken a new turn. ESIC decided to ban 37 coaches of top teams for gaining an advantage during matches by watching their opponent's actions.
This cheat was first discussed after Heroic's victory at ESL One Cologne. The unexpected success of a team that had not previously performed so well raised suspicions, and Heroic coach HUNDEN was the first to be accused of cheating. ESIC then began collecting information about the bug that was used to gain an unfair advantage and analyzing available records of past games. In recent weeks, several coaches have admitted to this violation, hoping that it would give them a chance to have their punishment reduced.
On September 28, ESIC announced that 20% of the available game tapes had been reviewed and 37 coaches were to be penalized as a result of that review. The final report of the investigation is scheduled to be published in October.
The teams react to this information in different ways. Some managers decide to dispense with the services of the offending coaches, while others decide to give them a second chance. For example, OG will continue to work with Casper «Casper» Dew after the months of the ban expire. Alexander «zoneR» Bogatyrev (36 months), Allan «Rejin» Petersen (19.8 months) and Slaava «Twista» Resenen (15.75 months) received the longest ban.
