A Czech player in Counter Strike: Global Offensive could get a real jail sentence for stealing one of the valuable skins. Among the objects he stole was a knife valued at $1,400. For most players, the main way to get in-game items is to buy them from the Steam Marketplace or third-party sites that sell skins. However, there are also unscrupulous users trying to get rare items fraudulently
In the Czech Republic there is a law according to which you can get a prison sentence of up to eight years for cheating with in-game items. In the aforementioned case, the defendant was apprehended while attempting to obtain a rare skin. He arranged with another user to purchase the item and paid a $190 deposit, but after receiving the item in his account, found himself making the rest of the payment. The deceived seller turned to the police, who eventually arrested the fraudster, and now he faces a prison sentence.
A report on the case was even shown on local television. A Pilsen police spokesperson confirmed that such an incident did take place, while Czech cybersports player Tomáš Bílek emphasized that the object in question is primarily of collector value and has no impact on gameplay. It is to be hoped that what happened will serve as a cautionary tale for other players.
